Coppell Community Garden hosting Texas SmartScape Tour
The Coppell Community Garden will be hosting the Texas SmartScape Tour on Saturday, September 29 from 9am-12pm. Maps and refreshments will be available at Helping Hands Garden, located next to the City of Coppell Town Center (255 Parkway Blvd.) beginning at 8:30am the morning of the tour. This self-guided tour will feature seven unique Coppell residential landscapes and gardens, as well as the two Coppell Community Gardens.
Texas SmartScape techniques beautify landscapes through the use of native and adaptive drought tolerant plants, which provide many ecological and environmental benefits. A SmartScape uses less water, fertilizers and pesticides while attracting birds, butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees, as well as many other types of wildlife. Native plants require minimal irrigation and care which saves time, money, and conserves water resources.
Featured homes include a hummingbird garden with a zen-like feel, an English cottage style garden, a river rock bed garden, a turf-free garden, and a unique bottle loofa tree garden! Homeowners and garden experts will be available to speak to visitors and answer questions. Gain first-hand knowledge about managing compost and worm bins, as well as the benefits of solar panels, organic fertilizer, mulching, and the use of rain barrels.
Fall is the time to plant! Come see what you should plant now for beautiful blooms next year from the homeowners of some of the most unique landscapes and gardens in Coppell!
This tour is free to the public and no registration is required. For more information about upcoming events and the Coppell Community Garden go to coppellcommunitygarden.org or to learn more about Texas SmartScape techniques go to txsmartscape.com.
