Coppell PD Implements Holiday DWI Task Force Print E-mail

The Coppell Police Department will implement a Driving While Intoxicated Task Force starting December 18 through December 31, 2011.  These officers will concentrate their patrol efforts in areas where DWI offenses are most likely to occur and apprehend intoxicated drivers.  "This task force will be staffed with officers from not only night shifts who routinely enforce DWI laws, but also with officers who are temporarily re-assigned from other positions.  This purposeful personnel allocation will help to ensure we have maximum impact on keeping the roadways of Coppell safe this holiday season."  Mac Tristan, Chief of Police.

Although there have been no fatality traffic accidents in the City of Coppell this year, the task force’s goal is to help reduce the number of deaths, injuries, and property damage associated with DWI.  "The enforcement of Driving While Intoxicated laws during nighttime hours is always important; however this task force will place a special emphasis during the time of year when there is a higher likelihood of intoxicated drivers on our roadways."  Captain Tony Pletcher, Patrol Division Commander.

Please call 911 immediately if you see any signs of intoxication among other motorists including, but not limited to:

• Weaving or zig-zagging across the road
• Stopping without cause or erratic braking
• Driving with headlights off at night
• Driving slower than 10 mph below speed limit
• Driving into opposing traffic on the wrong side of the road

Stay as far away from the other vehicle as possible and follow the instructions of the public safety dispatcher.
