Coppell Fire Department will hit the streets Thursday, May 26 and Friday, May 27 throughout the day to collect donations for the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s annual Fill-the-Boot campaign.
Last year, the firefighters raised more than $17,000 in just two days, and this year they hope to exceed that total. Firefighters will be boot-handling on the intersections of Belt Line and MacArthur, Sandy Lake and Denton Tap Rd., and Bethel Rd. and Royal Ln.
Fore more than 50 years, firefighters in North America have consistently raised more money for MDA than any other cooperating organization, contributing more than $200 million. “We are proud to be a part of the tradition between MDA and firefighters are looking forward to another great year filling the boot,” says Coppell Fire Chief Kevin Richardson. Texas firefighters lead the nation in donations, raising $3.1 million of the nearly $27 million collected by departments last year.
The Association serves more than 2,000 families in North Texas who are affected by one of 43 neuromuscular diseases. The funds raised enable MDA to provide the very best in patient care and services, including clinic visits, orthopedic equipment, support groups and a worldwide research effort seeking treatments and cures for the 43 neuromuscular diseases.
MDA is a voluntary health agency supporting programs of worldwide research, comprehensive services, advocacy and professional and public health education. All fundraising events lead up to the Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon to be broadcast by KXAS Channel 5 on September 5, 2011.
