Mission
The Finance Department's function is to collect, disburse, safeguard, invest and maintain records of the City's assets. Funds are deposited daily by the Finance Department. Purchase orders and payment authorizations are paid weekly. Safeguarding the City's assets is accomplished through internal controls and separation of duties among the finance personnel. Safety of investment principal is the first priority in earning the highest rate of interest on the City's funds. Financial records are kept on a current basis in order to provide City Officials with the information they need to make management decisions. Areas of Responsibility
Document InformationComprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) - summary of financial data by fund including balance sheet and operating statement for the previous fiscal year. Our fiscal year is October 1 through September 30.
Annual Budget - operating plan indicating all proposed expenditures and revenues for each fiscal year. The budget is the City's basis for improved decision making, better departmental management and greater public understanding of the City of Coppell.
Budget in Brief - provides citizens with a general overview of the City's adopted budget and the budget development process. The citizens gain a better understanding of the major financial issues facing the City.
Five-Year Plan - planning tool for future municipal operations and the impact of capital improvements through a broad, big picture analysis to meet the needs of the community. Allows each department to forecast expenditure increases in detail and plan current expenditures in order to maintain quality service within forecasted revenues. The Finance Department has copies of these documents available for reference at the William T. Cozby Public Library.
