Road Construction/Road Closures
#ST 10-02 - OLD TOWN IMPROVEMENTS (Coppell & Bethel Rd Infrastructure)
Beginning as early as Monday, April 9, 2012, they will restrict the traffic on Bethel Road to one way westbound from Coppell Road to Freeport Parkway for approximately 120 days. During this restriction, they will maintain one way traffic and access to all homes and businesses. Please click here for a detour map during the lane restriction.
On September 13, 2011 the City Council awarded a contract to JRJ Paving LP for the construction of this project. The project includes reconstruction of Bethel Road from east of Freeport Parkway through the intersection of S. Coppell Road/Mitchell Street. The project also includes all infrastructure necessary for the new "Town Square" south of Bethel Rd. and west of Coppell Rd. Click here for a map showing the proposed improvements.

#ST 99-02 - WEST SANDY LAKE RD., Phase 2B (Denton Tap Rd. to S Coppell Rd.)
The project is in process of utility relocation along Sandy Lake Road. This relocation process is a preparatory step which must be completed prior to beginning actual construction work to widen the road. Construction of the improvements is anticipated to start in mid 2012. The overall project will consist of a 4-lane divided roadway, improved drainage, an 8-foot hike and bike trail along the south side of the road, and a 5-foot sidewalk along the north side. The project will also include a new traffic signal at the intersection of S. Coppell Rd. and Sandy Lake Rd.
#ST 05-01 - DEFOREST RD.
A contract to reconstruct the existing 2-lane asphalt road with sidewalks and drainage improvements was awarded to Tiseo Paving Company in November 2011. The project also includes the installation of a traffic signal at the intersection of MacArthur Blvd. and Deforest Rd. Construction of the improvements will begin in January 2012 and is expected to take approximately 300 days. Construction activities will make it necessary to create one-way traffic zones with alternate exit routes for residents of the area.

Street InventoryThe City of Coppell has contracted with Fugro Consultants, Inc. to perform a condition inventory of all streets and alleys within the city limits. The digital images collected in the inventory will be read by MicroPAVERTM detection software that will allow a rating to be assigned to every lane mile. The rating will help prioritize repairs and maintenance for the future and also detect areas that may need more immediate attention.
The data collection is complete and processing of the data has begun.
