The City of Coppell is continuing to take a leading role in the community by
developing environmental initiatives through a systematic and broad-based
approach to sustainability.
In 2006, the Mayor and Council signed a resolution for the US Conference
of Mayors’ Climate Protection Agreement. In 2007, the City of Coppell became a member of ICLEI- Local Governments for Sustainability, an organization that provides tools and resources for Climate Change mediation and adaptability and networks with regional local governments.
Under the direction of the City Manager Office, an interdepartmental Green Team was formed to champion a greener Coppell, better known as ecoCoppell. The Green Team holds an annual Green Day on March 17th where city vendors showcase their green products to employees. In April, the Green Team has various Earthfest booths and giveaways for the public. Meeting monthly, they collaborate on many of the aspects of the city operations to reduce their impact on the environment.
