The Coppell Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division (CID) is commanded by Captain Shawn Fullagar. The Division is directly supervised by a Sergeant and Corporal who review, evaluate and prioritize all criminal complaints within the City of Coppell. These complaints are then assigned to one of four detectives within the Division. Typical duties for Police Investigators include:

• contacting and interviewing Complainants on assigned cases.
• determining the identity of criminal suspects.
• preparing probable cause affidavits for arrest and search warrants.
• executing arrest and search warrants for Coppell offenders when possible.
• preparing case reports for the district attorneys office.
• testifying before Grand Jury's and Criminal Courts of Law.
• locating and returning Complainant property.
• assisting other law enforcement agencies when required.
• assisting crime victims with understanding the judicial process.

Support Services available to assist CID include a Crime Scene Technician who assists with developing fingerprints, collecting evidence, taking photographs and preserving evidence. Victim Assistance is available to assist with death notifications, explanation of crime victim's rights and to help guide the victim through the legal process.
