The City of Coppell wins first place for the best National Night Out Celebration in the Nation
The City of Coppell's 20th Anniversary of National Night Out 2011 was awarded first place in the nation in our population category by the National Association of Town Watch (the creators of NNO). The City is #1 in the nation and in Texas. This makes the third time the City has won the top spot in the last six years and the 6th straight year we have been #1 in Texas. This is also the 20th straight year the City has won a national award.
This is a remarkable achievement for the city and the citizens who participate in this great event. NNO brings neighbors together, strengthens neighborhood spirit, generates participation in anti-crime programs, and sends a message to criminals that neighborhoods are fighting back against crime.
A large part of the success of the NNO program is not only the incredible participation from our citizens but also the wonderful support of departments within city government. The Coppell Police Department would like to thank the following people & neighborhoods, city departments, and volunteer organizations because without them, the National Night Out program does not happen:
All the Block Captains and Neighborhoods that participated, including the block party winners: Wrenwood/Hearthwood, Village Parkway, Alder Ct., Eagle Dr., Tennyson/Parkvalley, Hunterwood Park, and the spirited party on River.
The Mayor, City Council, and the City Manager's Office
Officers and Administration from the Police Department and Fire Department
The Citizen's Police Academy Alumni Association (C.P.A.C.) volunteers
The Coppell Police Department Explorers
Denice Neal and wonderful staff of the Aquatic Center
The City's Park and Rec Department
Scott Lata and the talented group in the Engineering Department
Per Birdsall and the hard working guys in the Streets Department
The Junior Police Academy (J.P.A.C.) student volunteers
McGruff the Crime Dog and the National Night Out Knight and their volunteers
The "we could not do it without you guys", from D.F.W. Video-Kevin, Shawn, and Austin
The great Sharon Logan-City of Coppell's Public Information Officer.
And, anyone we did not mention who participated.
Thanks again for twenty great years of community spirit and we look forward to continuing this tradition for twenty more!
NNO Block Parties:
Neighborhood block parties are the "cornerstone" of National Night Out. During NNO, neighborhoods are encouraged to come outside, meet one another, and just generally enjoy each other's company. The goal is to unite your neighborhood and take a stand against crime in the community. The evening can be celebrated in many different ways, such as ice cream socials, cookouts, bounce houses, swim parties, and even live music and entertainment. Each neighborhood can compete for the prestigious"NNO Block Party Winner" street sign. Winning neighborhoods will have the street sign displayed in their neighborhood for all to see! Remember to keep your flashlight handy and turn on your porch lights to give crime a going away party!
